The process
Opticast are able to receive customer data in a variety of traditional and electronic formats. Increasingly electronic CAD data is used from the quotation stage, in tool manufacture and for inspection purposes. The dimensional and metallurgical calculations form customer data enable the manufacture of the tool are curtail to the accuracy of the component. The injection-moulding tool is used to produce individual waxes. Wax Injection Press The assembly repeatability is a curtail factor in producing metallurgical sound castings and for unit cost calculations Shell Build Up The completed wax assembly (mould) is then coated in ceramic, the coating sequence is developed for the unique shape, and is automated using robots. - Having completed the shelling operation the wax is removed (hence the term Lost Wax). - The empty mould is then fired, the aluminium charge is poured into the mould and left to cool. - The ceramic surrounding the mould is then removed leaving a copy in metal of the original wax pattern. Finally the aluminium castings are removed from the mould, cleaned and processed to the customer’s requirements. Please read 2 of our documents: Alloy Specs - AND - Tolerances Guide |
